Time-of-Use Dispatch for Telecom Solar Sites

By Kingneed Engineering TeamPublished 2026-06-195 min read

Base stations run 24/7 while solar peaks at noon. Coordinated dispatch between bars and the EMS turns midday surplus into evening coverage.

The load curve problem

A base station's load is flat; solar output is a bell curve. Without storage, midday surplus is exported cheaply or curtailed while evening load draws from grid or diesel.

Dispatch logic that fits 48 V DC

Bars charge from midday surplus and discharge into the DC bus during price peaks or grid outages. The EMS schedules per-bar state of charge so the site rides through evening peaks without generator starts.

What operators measure

Generator runtime hours, diesel volume, grid import cost and battery cycle count. Sites typically review these monthly and expand bar count once the pilot curve stabilizes.
